La figue de barbarie, le trésor du désert marocain

Ce fruit épineux est depuis longtemps une composante précieuse de la biodiversité marocaine. Ses bienfaits pour la beauté de la peau sont connus depuis des générations de femmes qui l’utilisent dans leurs onguents et préparations beauté. Elle est aussi connue sous le nom de « sabra ». La figue de barbarie, fruit succulent derrière sa protection d’épines, provient du cactus Opuntia ficus-indica qui pousse dans les régions arides et semi-arides du Maroc. Elle tient son nom du peuple berbère qui a su en déceler les milles vertus.
Au-delà de sa saveur, son utilisation en cosmétique et ses nombreux bienfaits pour la peau et les cheveux en font un véritable trésor naturel que marocMaroc place au cœur de ses formules.

Une récolte estivale dans le respect des traditions

La récolte de la figue de barbarie se déroule principalement entre juillet et septembre, en cette saison gorgée de soleil et de chaleur durant laquelle les fruits atteignent leur pleine maturité. Les régions les plus connues pour la culture de ce cactus ? Le sud-est du Maroc, notamment les provinces de Tata, Guelmim, et Agadir. Respectueux des traditions ancestrales, les cultivateurs locaux utilisent des techniques traditionnelles pour cueillir les fruits, en se protégeant soigneusement les mains des épines acérées grâce à des gants épais et des pinces spéciales. Une fois récoltée, la précieuse figue de barbarie peut être consommée fraîche ou transformée en divers produits dérivés, tels que des jus, des confitures, et surtout, des soins précieux aux multiples propriétés cosmétiques.

La figue de barbarie, de la plante à la peau

Ce qui fait le caractère précieux de l’huile de figue de barbarie ? C’est sa fabrication qui nécessite autant de savoir-faire que de patience. Ce nectar doré est obtenu en pressant à froid ses minuscules graines nichées dans sa pulpe, après les avoir nettoyées, séchées puis broyées. Il faut environ une tonne de figues pour produire un litre d'huile, ce qui explique sa rareté et son prix élevé. Au cœur de formules cosmétiques, elle diffuse ses exceptionnelles vertus connues depuis des millénaires et désormais confirmées par la science. Bouclier végétal face au vieillissement cutané, elle véhicule ses tocophérols anti-radicalaires, ses acides gras essentiels multiples (surtout omégas-6 limitant la perte en eau de la peau et omégas-9 nourrissants et protecteurs) ainsi que ses stérols apaisants. On a pu prouver qu’elle restructurait le collagène, ces fibres essentielles à la bonne qualité des tissus cutanés. Hautement sensorielle, cette huile végétale naturelle est absorbée rapidement sans laisser de film gras, ce qui la rend idéale pour tous les types de peau, y compris les peaux sensibles.

Et pour les cheveux ? Elle agit comme un revitalisant naturel car elle hydrate en profondeur le cuir chevelu, renforce les cheveux cassants et leur donne brillance et souplesse. Elle est particulièrement bénéfique pour les cheveux secs et abîmés, aidant à réparer les pointes fourchues.

Le figuier de barbarie, une source cosmétique inépuisable

Savez-vous qu’en plus de l'huile, d'autres parties du fruit et du cactus sont utilisées en cosmétique ? Le mucilage, une substance visqueuse extraite des cladodes (feuilles) du cactus, est souvent incorporé dans des crèmes hydratantes et des masques pour ses propriétés apaisantes et hydratantes. Ce gel naturel est très efficace pour calmer les irritations, les rougeurs, et les brûlures causées par le soleil.

Chez marocMaroc, on utilise aussi l’eau de figue de barbarie issue de ses fleurs jaunes et oranges qui surmontent le cactus au printemps et en début d’été. Cette fleur, une fois séchée et infusée, possède des vertus thérapeutiques. La tradition berbère la consomme notamment sous forme de boisson chaude contre les maux digestifs.
